A survey of the University
Inner Mongolia University for the
Nationalities is located in Tongliao, a city known as the
"Pearl on the Horqin Grassland" in the eastern part
of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The former Inner Mongolia
National Teachers' College, Inner Mongolia Mongolian Medical
College and Jerim Husbandry College established in 1958 merged
into one in July, 2000 and was named and was named Inner Mongolia
University for the Nationalities. Inner Mongolia University
for the Nationalities is under the jurisdiction of the People's
Government of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and regional
Department of Education. It is the sole comprehensive university
for nationalities in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. 
The university attaches much importance to give full play
to distinctive national features, regional characteristics
and discipline advantages. It has established rich educational
ideas and distinctive guiding principles for running the university,
which are " to devote major efforts to developing national
education, to inherit and spread excellent Mongolian culture,
to innovate and develop Mongolian medicine, and to train compound
talented national minority people who are well versed in both
Mongolian and Chinese". The university follows the principles
and has already made a prominent contribution to training
many outstanding talented national minority people for both
the country and the autonomous region.
The development of the university has always been under
the support and great care from the leaders of the national
and the autonomous region. Vice-premier Hui Liangyu and ex-chairman
Wulanfu have dedicated the name for the university. Buhe,
ex-vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the NPC, Simayi.Aimaiti
and Wuyunqimuge, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of
the NPC, Chu Bo, the party secretary of the autonomous region
and Yang Jing, the chairman of the autonomous government have
been to the university and guided our work.. The university covers a total area of 1,552,000
square meters. The teaching building area is 911,000 square
meters, and the school building area is 379,000 square meters.
The teaching and administrative staff totals 1728 and 1025
of them are full-time teachers. Among the teaching staff,
there are 398 professors and associate professors. 343 of
them have obtained Doctor's degree or Master's degree. 106
teachers are now studding for doctorates or master's degrees.
The current number of both undergraduates and junior college
graduates totals 15,720. And there are also 288 postgraduate
students, 140 overseas students, and 16,697 students of adult
education in the university. For several years, the university
has turned out more than 90,000 skilled personnel for the
society at different levels.The university is composed of
22 teaching departments, including College of Politics and
Law and History, College of Mongolian, College of Literature,
College of Foreign Languages, College of Arts, College of
Physical Sports, College of Mathematics and Computer Science,
College of Physics and Electro-information, College if Chemistry,
College of Mechanical Engineering, College of Agriculture,
College of Animal Science and Technology, College of Mongolian
Medicine, College of Medical Sciences, College of Life Science,
College of Economic Administration, College of International
Exchange, College of Vocational Education, College of Adult
Education, the Teaching and Research Department of Marxism
and Leninism and the Teaching Department of College English.
In addition, it is equipped with six supporting departments:
a library, and Analysis and Test Center, an Editorial Department
of Journal, E-Center, Research Center of Mongolian Medicine,
Research Center of Higher Education Reform and Development,
and two attached departments: Head Company of Rear-Service
and the Attached Hospital.
Thhere are 11 research institutes
in the university, including
World History Research Institute, Kerqin Culture Research
Institute, Computational Physics Research Institute and Mongolian
Medicine Research Institute .Besides, there are 41 specialities
available for undergraduate education and 11 specialities
for vocational and techincal education. They cover 9 disciplines
consisting of law, education,arts,history,science,engineering,medicine,agriculture,and
management. Among all the specialities, there are19 which
have been entitled to confer Master's degree,4 discilines
among the key subject program at the provincial level; 4 regional-level
model specialities and 4 regional-level key subjects in the
Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region .Its journal is publicly
issued in 6 editions at home and abroad, among which the social
science Chinese edition is a core periodical in the Chinese
Humanities and Social Science Periodicals. 
The library of Inner Mongolian University for Nationalities,
as one of national grade 2 retrieval stations, has 1.584 million
books and over 3 thousand kinds of foreign and Chinese newspaper
and periodicals, builds the databases and large-scale electronic
reading rooms. The university has 61 basic and professional
laboratories among which Mongolian Medicine R&D Lab，as
a key lab, is supported by the State Affairs Commission and
the Ministry of Education. The university is equipped with
advanced teaching and scientific research apparatus and sets
up the campus networks connecting three campus districts and
faculties' habitants.
The university has developed joint program in cooperation
with the well-known universities such as Liaoning University,
Suzhou University, Beijing International Studies University
as well as China Medical University. And at the same time
the University has also established friendly cooperative relationships
with National University of Mongolia, Mongolian University
of health science and Technology ,Japan Rakunogakun University
and Sakushin Gakuinn University as well.
The university holds the following guiding principles of running
a school: to carry out  educational and ethnic policies by our Party; to
stick to focus on people, moral education, and legality of
government work; to shift educational ideology, enhance teaching
reform, improve the quality of education as well as teaching,
and optimize the pattern of training qualified personnel;
to work hard, with drive and spirit for prosperity, and accelerate
the undertakings of the university to be complete, harmonious
in sustainable development. The university is working hard
with persistent efforts to achieve the goal of "being
included among those advanced schools of higher learning in
Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region as far as the general level
of running a school is concerned; and being leading authorities
on some subjects within and outside the Region".
